Our condo

Don't know if I've ever put pictures of the condo on the blog. Here is one from the kitchen

The yert

This is the yert we stayed in for the weekend. They are very nice inside and the guys did a great job on them. Kai's dad rents these out to tourists.

Horses roaming free

I don't know how many of the horses out here are wild but there are very few fences and they seem to go wherever they choose.

The road out

Although very scenic, the drive out of the green beach to the east is a hell of a drive. I suggest having a four wheel drive with more clearance than our jeep has.

Green sand surf

We didn't bring our suits for some reason but there was some good surf at the green beach. Since its on the south end of the island its probably wavey all the time.

Green sand cliffs

The walls along the green sand are filled with volcanic peridot like the beach itself. They rise at least 150 ft above the beach.

Something to see

The green sand at the beach was really cool. It was a hell of a drive though but it was worth it.

Green sand beach

A while back, Reis and I went for a weekend to the south end of the island and stayed at Kai's Dad's yerts. We took a trip to the green sand beach finally.

Waimea from Mana rd

You could spend all day up here taking pictures. Almost everything up here is incredibly scenic

On the way back

The scenery on the mountain changes from minute to minute since the weather up here changes often and fast. Its probably raining everywhere we wnet now and we just got home.

Old rock wall

Rock walls made from lava are very common throughout the island. In some areas old rock walls give the area an ancient feel like something from Scottland.

Farm building

There are a rew scattered homes up on the mountain. Most of them are built next to small wooded areas that are spread across the mountainside. The views from most of these ranches are spectacular.

Clouds rolling in

As we got closer to the Hilo side of the island, more and more clouds were coming in. Even on clear days, the clouds eventually roll in from the east.

Crazy trees

The trees in this area grow in wild directions. Seems like a lot of the trees up here have died though. We think it could have to do with continuos eruptions and vog since 1983.

Lush vegitation

Even though we've had really dry weather for months, ususally it stays pretty green up on the mountainside.

Cattle country

The Mana rd travels through cattle country. Most of the land is part of Parker ranch which is one of the biggest cattle ranches in the country.

Waimea town

Was a beautiful day in Waimea today. Of course most days are beautiful in Waimea.

Mana road

Today we went for a drive up Mana road in Waimea. The road is a dirt track that runs from Waimea all the way to the top of Mauna Kea if you go far enough. We went bout twenty miles today.
